Snowy River Festival - Stockman's Challenge 2011

A full field of competitors mustered at The Station resort, Jindabyne for the Snowy River Festival Stockman's Challenge. After thre preliminary events, the first open final was a Brumby Catch for the Top Ten. Then the Top Three were selected and progressed to a Working Brumby final.  Morgan Webb, John Mitchell and Lachie Cossar had two hours in which to train the brumby they each caught and give a five minute presentation.  The new challenge champion and a clear winner on points was John Mitchell. In the Women's challenge, Lorraine Dutton was victorious and Cody Ballard won the juniors.

The Stockman's Relay was a fun event for teams consisting of a shearer, runner and horse rider. First the shearer removed the fleece and passed a bucket to a runner who had to also collect an inflatable yabbie and enter the dam riding it. Then swim across the dam and pass a full bucket to the rider, who had to carry it over a jump, through the dam and empty the contents into a pail to finish. In the final, the shearer had to pull a drum hand cart with a lazy axle with the runner astride it and tag the rider who had to saddle the horse, cross the dam, climb the ramp and return to finish.
